Overview of scholarly research/creative activity: Dr. Bidmead's primary area of expertise is ancient Near Eastern religions, focusing on rituals, magic, material culture, and gender. Her current research explores women’s roles and rites of passage in the religions of ancient Israel, Canaan, and Mesopotamia. A second area is popular culture and its gendered and religious messages.
Specific projects working on: For the spring semester, I am looking for students who want to work on projects related to gender, race, and intersectionality in mythology and religion. Also looking for students to analyze religion in popular culture, such as in the Disney franchise, to contribute to a conference presentation about Disney in the classroom. Students will sign up for the 291/491 Student-Faculty Research and Creative Activity course.
