Overview of scholarly research/creative activity:Research at the Brain Institute focuses on high-level cognition—especially on topics like consciousness, free will, perception, and moral responsibility. Though our projects are brain focused, they relate to engineering, psychology, biology, math, philosophy, and even film (and more).
Specific projects working on:There are dozens of ongoing projects at the Brain Institute. For a partial description of the projects and equipment see
https://braininstitute.us/research/Number of students looking to work with:5 or more
When students are needed:Fall 2023
Interterm 2024
Spring 2024
Summer 2024
What students need to work with Dr. Maoz:We use state-of-the-art equipment, so training research assistants takes time. We therefore prefer students who would like to stay on for at least 2 years.
What students would be doing:The day-to-day work depends on the project and on the student's skills and interests. Students may help gather experimental data (EEG, eye tracking, virtual reality, psychophysics, behavioral data, ...), analyze data, program experiments, develop computational modeling, build software or hardware for equipment, and more.
Time commitment for students:We expect research assistants to spend at least 8 hours per week at the Brain Institute. We also expect them to attend the undergraduate lab meetings biweekly and sometimes help with special events.
