Overview of scholarly research/creative activity: I am a comparativist, considering aspects of education and society from across the world. What works in one place, may fail in others—and I try to understand these differences or similarities. My most recent research has looked at international students, EdTech, the politics of publishing, and educational development in East Asia.
Specific projects working on: Combining both my scholarly and creative work, I recently founded a podcast with the Network for International Policies and Cooperation in Education and Training (NORRAG), a development agency based in Switzerland. Through their Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (KIX) initiative, I am interviewing policymakers, scholars, and NGO leaders from around the Europe, Asia, Pacific (EAP) hub. The name of our show is the KIX EAP Podcast.
Number of students looking to work with: 1 to 2
Time commitment for students: This is a very limited project, so the commitment is sparing. The podcast only happens once a month and the project is already half complete. But if someone is interested in learning a bit, I wouldn't mind giving them some insight.
When students are needed: Fall 2021, Interterm, Spring, Summer 2022
Requirements for students who work with you: Interest in educational development, podcasting, new media
What would students be expected to do: Editing podcasts, writing copy, social media content
