AH 331 History of Photography Spring 2021 Compendium

Charlie Hoberman Biography

Growing up, I have always been surrounded by art in many forms. My dad is an art collector, my mom used to be a professional photographer, and my grandma was a sculptor. I was exposed to different mediums of work that has inspired and influenced my passion over the years. Since I was a kid, my dad has taken me to different galleries in the Los Angeles and New York City area and being exposed to this industry at such a young age, I always felt curious about its constant change. My work typically captures the beauty of natural settings without human intervention. I enjoy spending most of my time in the ocean, capturing the ever-changing elements of the sea, observing the interaction between water and light. Though I spend most of my time taking photos, my interests lie in all aspects of art from contemporary to abstract expressionism. I am curious to explore the ways in which history over time influences artists and their work.
