The Rise and Fall of Instant Photography: Polaroid and Beyond

Point, shoot, wait. Point, shoot, wait⎯waiting for film to develop has become an activity of the past with the invention of instant photography. Paving the way to the rise of instant photography was Polaroid Corporation, developed by American scientist Edwin Land. Over the decades, the Polaroid Corporation has marked many successes with their innovative cameras. However, with the invention of digital and disposable cameras, Polaroid failed to keep up with their competitors, leading to their downfall. After the rebranding of the Polaroid company, instant photography has made its way back into the mainstream.
