Codex Chapman

Citlalcoatl Tongue

Sticking out of the snake's mouth are two thin lines that curve at the ends, presumably making up the Citlacoatl's tongue. The text describes the Citlacoatl as poisonous, and when bitten, depending on where the Morning Star is in the sky, you will either die or miraculously survive. This idea shows the stars' incredible influence and powers over the Nahua people.
