Codex Chapman

Small bowl-like vessels

Small bowl-like vessels scattered throughout the composition, potentially containing ritual foods, beverages, or other offerings used during the Huey Tozoztli celebration. Might be various other dishes made from maize. One of the most significant aspects of the Huey Tozoztli ceremony was the offering of maize-based dishes and beverages to the gods. The Codex provides detailed descriptions and illustrations of the preparation and presentation of these offerings, which included tamales, atole (a thick, corn-based beverage), and various other dishes made from maize.
