Department: Physical Therapy

Overview of scholarly research/creative activity:  I work in the field of Biomedical Engineering to assess mobility and fall risk in both healthy elderly and patients with neuromuscular disorders. My research involves the i) development of Smartphone Apps ii) usage of equipment like EMG, EEG, Forceplates, driving simulator, and Virtual Reality for Gait and Mobility assessment.

Specific projects working on:  One focal point of my research includes understanding how human gait and mobility impairment can be assessed using wearable sensors and engineering and Physical Therapy Tools. Can wearable sensors provide additional information to health care providers enabling them to provide more reliable impairment diagnoses and developing rehabilitation therapies? My research interests are focused on improving the overall quality of life of patients with interdisciplinary research involving students from computational and data sciences, engineering, PT and health sciences streams.

Number of students looking to work with: 3-4

Time commitment for students:  Flexible as per student time availability

When students are needed: Fall 2020, Interterm 2021, Spring 2021, Summer 2021

Requirements for students who work with you:  Interested and motivated for Human Subjects Research

What would students be expected to do: experiments, data analysis, interacting with human subjects
