12021-05-21T07:25:26+00:001 Image 2 Minutes | H Corwin2ever is over all in Pipilotti Rist’s hyper saturated, lo- fi fantasy world, a hypnotic, vibrant alternate reality. in this pixelated parallel plane, flowers can break glass and women can express themselves without consequence. the year is 1997, and the mtv generation is well versed in the over-sexualized, desensitized world of technology. Rist’s consumer-grade, standard-definition video camera captures a woman’s progression down a city sidewalk. she floats uninhibited, blue dress billowing, arms swinging loosely at her sides with joyous abandon. red heels like fire on her feet guide confident strides. In her hand she wields a flower, a clitoric bloom, femininity is her weapon. then, the collision of nature and machine a cathartic cascade of glass the consequence of their conflict. an explosion of self-liberation, she dares to take action- like beyoncé with her bat or britney with the umbrella acting out against the machine made to keep them quiet. rist seems to tell us to make sound to be noticed and assert yourself in opposition to the patriarchy. glass has been shattered in case of emergency: we are at war and rist is guiding us into battle, all with a beaming smile telling us not to be afraidmedia/CorwinPhotoFinal1Image2mins.mp3plain2021-05-21T07:37:52+00:00New Recording 4
