Images and Imaginings of Internment: Comics and Illustrations of Camp

Incarceration Site Overview

Images and Imaginings of Internment: Comics and Illustrations of Camp documents the experiences of Japanese Americans who were interned to provide insight into the life histories of many Californians who were incarcerated due to their race and ethnicity. This educational platform is intended to introduce audiences to everyday life in the incarceration camps, and some of its history. Still little is known about the WWII incarceration campus in US history courses and discussions. President Ronald Reagan’s 1988 Civil Liberties Act allocates a public education fund in California to educate students about this history, which includes Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston’s novel Farewell to Manzanar in its curriculum.
