David Drake was an artist, poet, and a slave from Edgefield, South Carolina. As a slave he overcame societal norms by using his pottery as a symbol of protest towards the racist culture of the oppressive South. He would often inscribe poetry on his pottery while using clever and entertaining language. Furthermore in the podcast, I will also depict my take on pottery with inspiration from Dave the Potter.
