AH 331 History of Photography Spring 2021 Compendium

Sam Webster Biography

When I was growing up, I always looked forward to my uncle coming to town. He is one of the most talented people I have ever met, and every time he visited he always had something new to teach me. He was amazing at playing the guitar, and even more talented at art. I always admired his drawings and paintings, but his photography made my heart sing and inspired me to pursue my own work. I spent most of my youth playing sports, and had little time to pursue these aspirations of creating. It wasn't until high school, when I was able to take art classes, that I realized how strong my passion for creating really was. Now I pursue photography and drawing as hobbies, and I love that they are able to act as an outlet for personal expression. I love learning about the history of photography because of my fascination with how it changed the world and shapes the culture we experience today. I love that we are living in a time when anyone can be a photographer. You don't have to have an access of time or money. Your camera and editing software can all be on the same device that you happen to carry around with you everywhere you go. I love that it gives anyone the opportunity to create, which gives democracy and inclusivity to art.
